Hello to the Warrane community
Wow, this term has gone fast!
Last week and this week, Grade 3-6 have been participating in the Water Safety Swimming and Awareness program at Oceana Swim Centre. This program focuses on supporting all students to be safe in and around the water. To develop skills, so that if in trouble they can save themselves but also to feel confident to enjoy time in the water. I have been lucky to go with all classes several times, it has been wonderful to see the growth in skills and to watch how much enjoyment comes from being in the pool. I am sure they are all exhausted and will appreciate the rest the holiday will bring.
Next term we have some exciting new initiatives to add to our school community with the aim of increasing engagement in learning and attendance. We are going to introduce a ‘Together at the Table’ program which will include students inviting a family member to join them for hot lunch. Community Park Excursions every Wednesday for a group of 10 random students each week. A ‘Reuse Upcycle’ gardening program where students design, buy resources from the local Tip Shop and build their creations. All students will have the opportunity to participate in an activity next term.
I hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday and we get some pleasant weather to enjoy. Rest well, spend time together and I will see you all on Monday, the 14th of October.
Sarah Hoban

Persuasive Letters
This week we each identified something that we think would benefit our learning and/or enjoyment of school.
With this, we are now writing persuasive letters to various staff members to try and make our ideas come to life. We have students writing to Mrs Hoban requesting some changes to the hot lunch menu, some students are writing to Mrs Reinbach requesting to help out in Kinder and we have lots of other great ideas and persuasive letters underway.
We are looking forward to sharing these soon! ✏️
Electricity
As part of our Science focus we spent some time building electrical circuits, designing electrical circuits online and programming Bee-Bot Robots to complete an obstacle course.
Transmission Tower Challenge ⚡️
Students learnt about electricity and the role of transmission towers. They then worked in pairs or on their own to draw/design a well-constructed transmission tower.
Following their designs, they then built their transmission towers using only pasta, marshmallows and tape. Students worked in teams and on their own to take on this challenge. There were some fantastic designs, thinking and teamwork!
Students enjoyed a wonderful performance by Timmy and the Breakfast Band. The show conveyed the different emotions a nine-year-old student, Timmy experienced on a school morning. It depicted how music and movement can change how we feel and the importance of accepting each other despite our differences.
The performance showed our student’s that mornings getting ready for school are not always smooth, yet can be bumpy and full of emotions before we even step foot out the door. It was a playful and interactive show that had students and staff in laughter, as we followed Timmy’s morning routine.
A great incursion enjoyed by all.
A reminder that families are required to use the larger family carpark for school drop off and pick up.
The smaller carpark near the early years classes is for staff and service vehicles only. It does not have enough parking for families and the visibility of the surrounding area and access in and out during busy times creates an added safety risk to students.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this.
If your child requires medication or an EpiPen at school, the following guidelines need to be followed:
- All medications and EpiPen's must be in date and in the original packaging with the Pharmacist label stating the child’s name and dosage (this includes non-prescription medication, eg paracetamol).
- A Parent/Guardian DoE Authorisation form needs to be completed for all medications that are to be administered at school.
- Medical Practitioner/Pharmacist DoE Authorisation forms needs to be completed for ongoing prescription medication and EpiPen’s.
- Asthma, epilepsy and anaphylaxis action plans need to be updated every year by your doctor and provided to the school office.
