Hello Families,
It’s hard to believe that we are almost at the end of Week 8! We have had a wonderful fortnight at Warrane Primary School.
Firstly, a big congratulations to the students who were selected to attend Learner’s Lounge this week! This special recognition was awarded to Jaxson, Addie, Jadah, Flynn, Charlie, Ivy, Mayiyam, Nova, Callum, Hazel, Harrison, Nate, Arlo, and Tyke. Each of these students proudly shared a range of outstanding work, including engaging recount writing, clever addition strategies, creative artwork, and even some impressive knitting projects! To celebrate their achievements, the students enjoyed a warm cup of Milo and a biscuit while sharing their learning with others in a relaxed and encouraging environment. It was a joy to see their confidence and pride as they spoke about their work. I’m already looking forward to seeing who will be invited to our final Learner’s Lounge for Term 2 in Week 10. Keep up the fantastic effort, everyone!
On Friday, 6th June, Warrane Primary teaching staff joined with colleagues from Clarendon Vale and Rokeby for Moderation Day. This collaborative event is an essential part of our professional development, allowing teachers to come together to discuss their assessment practices. During Moderation Day, teachers shared insights and strategies to ensure consistency in grading and feedback across different schools. This process provided an excellent opportunity for teachers to learn from each other, share best practices, and develop new approaches to support student learning. We look forward to implementing the ideas and strategies discussed during Moderation Day to further enrich the learning experience at Warrane Primary School.
Last Friday, it was the Year 5–6 Gearman class’s turn to host ‘Together at the Table’, and what a wonderful event it was! Families gathered to share a delicious meal featuring hearty meatloaf and fragrant Moroccan lamb, followed by a refreshing dessert of fruit and yoghurt. It was heartwarming to see such a strong turnout from our school community, and I was especially proud of our students. Many of them stepped out of their comfort zones to try new and unfamiliar flavours—some even surprised themselves by enjoying dishes they initially thought they wouldn’t like! Their open-mindedness and adventurous spirit were truly commendable.
Today, both Year 3–4 classes embarked on an exciting excursion to the Sustainability Centre. Throughout the day, our students engaged in hands-on learning experiences that deepened their understanding of environmental stewardship. They explored practical ways to care for our planet and reflected on the importance of preserving natural resources for future generations. We were incredibly proud of how they represented our school, consistently demonstrating our core values of respect and responsibility. Their curiosity, thoughtful questions, and positive behaviour made it a memorable and meaningful day for all involved.
Have a wonderful week

Grade 5/6 Share a Special Lunch with Loved Ones.
Last week, Grade 5/6 Gearman participated in a heartwarming Together at the Table lunch, provided by the School Food Matters initiative and prepared by our talented cook, Julie. Students invited a special person in their life to share a delicious meal together, the menu featured Moroccan Lamb and Pasta Bolognese followed by a refreshing yoghurt and fruit dessert. Students were proud to serve the meal, and the joy of sharing food with someone they care about made the experience even more meaningful. It was a wonderful celebration of connection, community and the simple pleasure of eating together.
Recently, as part of our inquiry into survival in Southwest Tasmania, students researched clothing and essential gear suited to the region’s rugged conditions. They created PowerPoint presentations to justify their choices based on climate data, material properties and suitability for extended stays in the wilderness.
*This learning links to the Australian Curriculum V9 (Science and HASS) for Years Five and Six, with a focus on evaluating materials and environments and applying research skills to real-world scenarios.
In 3/4 Spencer we have had a busy term so far. We have been learning about Information Texts in English, addition strategies in Maths, and every week we have joined with the 3/4 Wood class for Science. The students have been investigating the properties of different materials to find out how suitable they are when used for packaging. They have been working in groups to design a package to protect a “special gift” (an ANZAC biscuit) that is sent through the post. The teamwork has been incredible and there are some very clever designs ready to be made and posted.

Authorisation for Administration of Student Medication forms need to be filled out for both prescription and non-prescription medications. You can find blank forms attached below or request them from the school office. Form A is for non-prescription medicine and can be filled in by a parent. Form B is for prescription medicine and needs a GP or pharmacist input. Students needing short-term medication like antibiotics or Panadol must submit these forms before staff can administer them.
All medical forms must be updated yearly and signed by the child’s healthcare provider. If the current forms are less than two years old, a letter from your GP can confirm their validity.

The Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) provides assistance for eligible families by waiving the cost of school levies. All families holding a current Centrelink Health Care Card, Centrelink Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card are eligible for STAS.
Further information on STAS can be found on the Department of Education internet at: https://www.education.tas.gov.au/parents-carers/parent-fact-sheets/fees-levies/.
The online form can be found at: https://stasonlinesubmission.education.tas.gov.au/ .
Parents who currently receive STAS will not need to provide any additional information and will not need to reapply. You cannot apply online or add additional students in the online application form if you are already receiving STAS. If you wish to add a newly enrolled child to your existing STAS file, please email the details to stas@decyp.tas.gov.au.
Questions about STAS can be forwarded to the Department’s Financial Services Unit at stas@decyp.tas.gov.au or by calling 1800 827 055.
We welcome volunteers at Warrane Primary School. As you would know from the past, volunteers require a Working with Vulnerable People check to be able to come onsite to help with events and excursions.
Registration to work with vulnerable people (cbos.tas.gov.au)
There is now an additional requirement that all volunteers have completed the mandatory safeguarding training module. The certificate must be provided to our office staff before you are able to volunteer.

Corrected 2025 Levies have been posted to families. The cost of this years levies are $135. This covers all stationery, excursions, and activities for the year and can be paid via BPay or EFTPOS.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 6244 1747, via email at warrane.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au, or by coming in between 8:30am and 3:15pm.
A reminder that families are required to use the larger family carpark for school drop off and pick up.
The smaller carpark near the early years classes is for staff and service vehicles only. It does not have enough parking for families and the visibility of the surrounding area and access in and out during busy times creates an added safety risk to students.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this.

All students are welcome.

We have students who are allergic to nuts and eggs. As this allergic reaction can be life threatening, the school asks that these products are not brought to school in children’s lunch boxes or for class celebrations.
Items not to be brought to school include but are not limited to - all nut products, peanut butter, Nutella, peanut oil in margarines and all egg products.
It is important that all classes observe this nut and egg aware policy due to the danger of an allergic child coming into contact with residue left by other classes. The parents/carers and staff appreciate your co-operation in this serious matter.
