Hello Warrane Community,
Next week is an exciting one at Warrane Primary!
Swimming Carnival
Our 2025 Warrane Swimming Carnival for students in Grades 3–6 will be held at the Clarence Aquatic Centre. Families are warmly invited to come along and cheer from the sidelines. The timetable of events is available on our Facebook page.
Wellbeing & Engagement Survey
Students in Grades 4–6 will also be taking part in the statewide School Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. This important survey helps us understand how students are feeling about their learning, friendships, relationships with staff, and overall wellbeing. We use the results to guide positive changes and ensure all students are safe, supported, and engaged in their learning.
Inter-School Sport
On Friday, 5 September, we’ll travel to Risdon Vale Primary for the final rostered netball and football games. Students who have participated in previous games will be invited, and families are encouraged to come along and support our teams. It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and teamwork on display throughout the season, with even our younger students getting a chance to join in.
We’re already halfway through the term—bring on daylight savings!
Warm regards,
Sarah
I acknowledge and pay respect to the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community as the traditional and original owners of lutruwita/trowunna (Tasmania) and as the enduring custodians of the lands, seas, air and waterways. I pay respect to Elders past and present.

Our approach at our school is that we are committed to making sure every child and young person receives the literacy support they need—when they need it. That’s why we use a consistent, evidence-based approach across all Department schools called the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
Here’s how MTSS works:
- Tier 1 – For all students: Every child is taught to read using proven, evidence-based teaching strategies.
- Tier 2 – For some students: Those who need extra time and practice with specific literacy skills work in smaller groups. Once they’ve mastered the skill, they return to Tier 1.
- Tier 3 – For a few students: These learners receive one-on-one support to help them learn specific literacy skills, alongside the learning in Tiers 1.
This system ensures that every student gets the right amount of help at the right time. Whether it’s extra practice or individual support, MTSS is our way of making sure no student is left behind in their literacy journey.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more about how your child’s learning is supported, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher.
Monday – Book Week Parade
Book Week kicked off with a burst of creativity as students filled the hall dressed as their favourite book characters! The energy was electric, and the excitement of the book voucher draw added an extra spark. What a fantastic start to our adventure!

Tuesday – Book & Breakfast
Families gathered in the hall for a warm and cozy morning of reading, hot cross buns and breakfast. It was heartwarming to see students and loved ones sharing stories and smiles—a wonderful way to begin the day!

Wednesday – Mystery Reader
Classrooms were buzzing with curiosity as mystery teachers popped in to read their favourite stories. The surprise element made it magical, and students were captivated by the tales and the mystery behind the readers!
A Huge Thank You to Angela Briant and David O’Byrne!
We’re so grateful to Angela Briant, former Book Council President, for her incredible support during Book Week 2025. Her dedication to the costume library and “Pick a Book Day” brought so much joy to our students—who absolutely loved choosing a book to take home and share with their families.

We also extend our thanks to local MP David O’Byrne for his support of our celebrations. With community champions like Angela and David, Book Week at Warrane Primary was truly something special!
What a fantastic year it has been so far in Prep! We are seeing wonderful growth in our students since Term 2. Through learning our letters and sounds, some of the children are now beginning to read, which is such an exciting milestone. In mathematics, we have been applying concepts to larger numbers, helping build strong foundations for future learning.
Our daily reviews, explicit teaching, and engaging multi-sensory activities have been supporting all students in their different ways of learning. It has been a joy to see every child making progress and developing their confidence.
This term we also celebrated two very special events: our 100 Days of Prep and the always popular Book Week. Both celebrations were filled with fun, creativity, and lots of smiles.
It’s been a busy and exciting term already, and we are so proud of all that our Prep students have achieved!

On Tuesday students in Years 5 & 6 were selected to represent Warrane Primary at the Southern Primary School Winter Sports Carnival in netball or football. The students spoke enthusiastically of the day, and we were told they represented the school proudly.
Congratulations Ada, Ella, Jadah, Brock, Xaxtyn, Ty, Jamez and Levi!

Woodwork Wonders: A Hands-On Windmill Workshop with Asher from Tool Skool
Last week, 5/6G were treated to a truly memorable experience when Asher, a talented woodwork artisan, visited our school to lead a hands-on workshop. With sleeves rolled up and tools at the ready, students embarked on a creative journey to build their very own rubber band-operated windmills.
Asher guided the students step by step through the entire process, blending craftsmanship with a sense of curiosity. The workshop began with careful measuring and planning, as students learned the importance of precision in woodworking. Then came the sawing—using coping saws to shape the wooden pieces—and the satisfying rhythm of hammering nails into place.
Throughout the session, students used a variety of tools, including hammers, glue, sandpaper, and screwdrivers. They sawed, nailed, screwed, and smoothed their creations, gaining confidence with each step. Asher’s calm and encouraging presence made the experience both educational and enjoyable, and his passion for woodwork was truly infectious.
By the end of the workshop, each student had crafted a unique windmill powered by a simple rubber band mechanism. More than just a fun project, the activity taught valuable lessons in design, engineering, and perseverance.
We are incredibly grateful to Asher for sharing his time and expertise. The workshop was a wonderful blend of creativity and hands-on learning—an experience our students will not soon forget!

Coming up soon is our 2025 Warrane Swimming Carnival for all students in grades 3 to 6. The carnival will be held at the YMCA Clarence Aquatic Centre. We will all travel together to the pool on a bus.
At the Carnival you will be able to participate in a range of different events. Everyone will be able to swim across the pool for 25m in freestyle, backstroke, dog paddle and breaststroke, you will also be allowed to walk in the water if you get tired or if you are not a confident swimmer.
There will be Lifeguards, Teachers, and lots of floating equipment there to help if it is needed at any time during the carnival.
Trying something new or different can be scary sometimes but it can also be exciting. Maybe you will have feelings of worry or anxiety, maybe there will be a feeling of butterflies in your tummy or worries in your mind. Mr C and your class teachers want you to know that our swimming carnival is all about trying your best and having fun.

We have students who are allergic to nuts and eggs. As this allergic reaction can be life threatening, the school asks that these products are not brought to school in children’s lunch boxes or for class celebrations.
Items not to be brought to school include but are not limited to - all nut products, peanut butter, Nutella, peanut oil in margarines and all egg products.
It is important that all classes observe this nut and egg aware policy due to the danger of an allergic child coming into contact with residue left by other classes. The parents/carers and staff appreciate your co-operation in this serious matter.

All students are welcome.
A reminder that families are required to use the larger family carpark for school drop off and pick up.
The smaller carpark near the early years classes is for staff and service vehicles only. It does not have enough parking for families and the visibility of the surrounding area and access in and out during busy times creates an added safety risk to students.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this.
