Hello everyone
Well done to everyone who participated in the Grade 3-6 Athletics carnival last Wednesday. Although there were a few Covid restrictions in place, the students had a wonderful day and tried their best in the events. We were able to use the three gazebo’s that the School Association bought to ensure that everyone was undercover and had shade.
Tomorrow students are going to the Inter-Schools Carnival to represent Warrane PS, I am sure that they will have a great day.
Due to meeting restrictions the School Association has been unable to meet so far this year. Talking with the SA Chair, Sheree Batchelor, we are trying to organise a Krispy Kreme fundraiser! More information about this will come soon.
On Wednesday this week members of the Hobart Hurricanes came in and worked alongside students in the PE time to develop their cricket skills. The students thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity, and all showed courage and respect to the visiting players.
The DoE has informed us that we can start to run Launching into Learning sessions, as long as we run them outside and with the current Covid restrictions. So keep your eyes open on Facebook for upcoming dates and venues.
I hope everyone had a lovely long weekend and enjoy the rest of this week.
Sarah

Validation forms and permissions have been sent home with students. Parents are asked to make any amendments, mark the permissions yes or no, sign and return the forms back to the office or class teacher as soon as possible. It is important we have up to date information for each student, especially in relation to emergency contacts. Parent/guardian information is listed on the forms but other emergency contacts are required to be added each year.
If your child requires medication or an EpiPen at school, the following guidelines need to be followed:
- All medications and EpiPen's must be in date and in the original packaging with the Pharmacist label stating the child’s name and dosage (this includes non-prescription medication, eg paracetamol).
- A Parent/Guardian DoE Authorisation form needs to be completed for all medications that are to be administered at school.
- Medical Practitioner/Pharmacist DoE Authorisation forms needs to be completed for ongoing prescription medication and EpiPen’s.
- Asthma, epilepsy and anaphylaxis action plans need to be updated every year by your doctor and provided to the school office.
Kind regards,
Lucy
The School Health Nurse offers all students in Kindergarten a free health check as part of the state-wide School Health Nurse Service.
During the Kindergarten Health Check, your child will have:
- a vision and hearing check
- oral health check
- height and weight measurement
- any identified parental concerns addressed
A Kindergarten Health Check consent form will be sent home with your child. Please complete the form, sign and return to your child’s teacher or school office (even if you do not wish for your child to have a Kindergarten Health Check).
To prevent the spread of COVID and for the safety of your child and the school community, the Department of Education have stated that Kindergarten Health Checks will not be conducted for at least the first five weeks of school. Once safe to do so, and with your signed consent form, the School Health Nurse will begin conducting Kinder Health Checks throughout the year and will send you a written report for your records.

SOUTHERN PRIMARY SCHOOL LEADERS CONFERENCE
At the beginning on Term 2 Amy-Lee and Liam from Grade 6 travelled to Huonville Primary School to attend the Southern Primary School Leaders Conference. This is some of their thoughts on the day:
I liked learning about Science presentation and enjoyed learning new things. The name arrangement was my favourite because I got to learn people’s names. My 2nd favourite game was the spaghetti tower game and after that the stick carrying game. The person I enjoyed meeting the most was Ruruan, he was funny and kind overall. I enjoyed the day and I wish I could experience it again.
Amy-Lee
I felt my experience with the conference was quite enjoyable, seeing how other leaders are being role models for their school. I felt the speaker was very good at sharing the journey of her job. I learnt some quite valuable leadership skills from the presentation. The team building was also a good experience of getting to know other school captains.
Liam
In Prep/1 we have been learning to sort and classify objects by looking at their features, such as colour, size and shape. Classifying allows us to make observations about objects in our world and is important for identifying, copying and creating patterns.

The cooler months bring colds, flu, COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses. The best way to look after yourself and your family is to prepare, plan and protect.
- Prepare and get vaccinated. Making sure the whole family are up to date with their flu and COVID-19 vaccines is the best way to protect them from getting very sick.
- Flu can be serious for young children. Children are more likely to catch and spread the flu and young children may become very sick.
- Everyone aged over 6 months can receive an annual flu vaccine. Flu vaccines are free* for children under 5 years, pregnant women, people aged over 65 years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and those with certain medical conditions.
- Adults can receive COVID-19 vaccine every 6 to 12 months, depending on age and individual health. Speak to your GP or pharmacist about what vaccines are recommended for you and your family.
- You can receive flu and COVID-19 vaccines on the same day. Book an appointment with your GP or local pharmacist today.

STUDENT ASSISTANCE SCHEME (STAS) 2022
The Student Assistance Scheme provides assistance for low income families towards the cost of levies. STAS is provided through school and college resourcing rather than payment direct to families.
Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) application forms for 2022 are available at the office.
Families who were approved and received STAS 2021 have been sent correspondence regarding STAS 2022 directly from the Department and do not need to complete another STAS application.
STAS application forms are to be issued to families who have not applied for or been in receipt of STAS in 2021.
Families can also apply online on the Department's web page at www.education.tas.gov.au. Please note, parents/guardians cannot apply again online if they have received STAS in 2021. If a parent/guardian wishes to add a newly enrolling student to their STAS file (i.e. a kinder student) they simply need to email their name and the student’s full name, date of birth, grade and school they’ll be attending in 2022 to stas@education.tas.gov.au.
A friendly reminder about school parking. The Visitor carpark at the eastern end of Warrane Primary is the designated Parent/Guardian carpark for dropping students off and picking them up. The smaller carpark at the western end is the Staff/Delivery carpark. Due to poor visibility and delivery trucks traversing the Staff carpark, Parents/Guardians are requested to only use the Visitor carpark. We appreciate your cooperation.
During Term 1 and 4 students are required to wear hats at all break times and during outdoor lessons. The skin on faces, heads, necks and ears is much more sensitive to sun damage so it is important that your child brings a hat to school that covers these sensitive areas.
Bucket hats are available at the school office to purchase for $6.

REMINDER – OUR SCHOOL IS A NUT AWARE SCHOOL
