Hello to the Warrane community,
Lots has been happening recently, with the Book Fair last week raising over $2000 to go towards buying new books for the library!
Book Week celebrations were a huge success with students getting into the spirit of their characters. We had a Mystery Teacher afternoon, each class had a guest presenter to read a story book that they enjoy.
The Colour Run has been an amazing fundraiser for the school, with over $4000 raised!! The school gets 60% of all funds to go towards sporting equipment and playground upgrades. Many thanks to those who donated to one of the student profiles and a huge thank you to the staff who were involved in managing this.
I look forward to being ‘painted’ tomorrow by the top ten students!!
Matt Z, who works for PCYC and is involved within our school community is coming in next week to share valuable information around the impact and negative implications of vaping for young people. The Department of Education has multiple vaping resources online and children in Grades 4-6 will bring home some information later next week.
Sarah
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF TRADITIONAL OWNERS
I acknowledge and pay respect to the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community as the traditional and original owners of lutruwita/trowunna (Tasmania) and as the enduring custodians of the lands, seas, air and waterways. I pay respect to Elders past and present.
Students are to wear a white top on the day. We have been advised not to wear white shoes as the colour may not come out. Students may bring a towel or a change of clothes.

SCHOOL SATISFACTION SURVEY 2023 - INVITATION
The 2023 School Satisfaction Surveys are coming!
Every year the Department of Education conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve.
We would be grateful if you completed our online survey about Warrane Primary School. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school-planning and decision-making.
The survey is open from Monday 28 August 2023 until Friday 22 September 2023 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Take the online survey by clicking this Link. or pasting it in your browser: https://ncv.microsoft.com/9ucmBvLVJy
The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department of Education staff.
Please contact the office if you require any assistance.
Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.
7HOFM is on the search for Hobart’s School of the Year! With one school winning $10,000.
We have entered this year and we need everyone’s support.
The school that receives the highest votes wins. A person can vote once a day for the voting period which is from Tuesday 29 August until 6:00pm on Thursday 21 September.
Please encourage your family members to put in their daily vote, every vote counts!
This is a great opportunity for our community to rally together and promote Warrane Primary! Please click on the following link to vote:
Grade 3/4 Wood and 4/5 Gearman had a fantastic time at the Festival of Bright Ideas. Students got to move around to different science activities and experience science first hand!

In Prep/1 Spencer we have been investigating repeating patterns and making our own using coloured blocks. We have been enjoying reading every day, either alone, in pairs or in groups, and have also been on an excursion to the Warrane Mornington Community Garden. Everyone had a great day while making weaving boards, planting radishes, and going on plant treasure hunts.

In Week 4 we celebrated National Science Week. Students across all year levels had the opportunity to participate in science based learning activities throughout the week. The Upper Primary classes had a visit from University of Tasmanian Young Tassie Scientists and 3/4 Wood and 4/5 Gearman went to the Festival of Bright Ideas at PW1. Our Early Childhood classes participated in an Science Fair in the school hall. Students participated in a range of hands on learning stations such as slime making, coding, robotics and magnets. They were supported by students from Mt Carmel College.

Such a wonderful turn out for our book week parade. So many amazing costumes and smiling faces.

Warrane Primary School Grade 3-6 Swimming Carnival will be held on Thursday 7th September at the YMCA Clarence Aquatic Centre. Students will be able to participate and interact with different year groups, celebrate their peers’ diverse talents and abilities, and show off their house spirits.
The bus will leave the school at 9:05am and return to school at approximately 1.30pm.
Please ensure that your child arrives at school promptly on the day. Students require appropriate swimwear including bathers, goggles, and a towel. Swimwear will need to be worn underneath full school uniform to help with change room restrictions. Students are encouraged to bring an additional bag for wet clothes and towels to go in. Please ensure underwear is packed for them to change into after their swim.
Children are required to bring a full lunch and a drink bottle of water. The kiosk will not be available for students to purchase items.
Parents/carers can attend and are provided with an area to view races.
We are looking for volunteers to assist with the running of the carnival. If you can help on the day and have a WWVP card, please contact the office.
The rising number of children and young people vaping is a growing issue of concern in our community.
Electronic cigarettes (vapes) can be appealing to young people due to bright colours and flavours. But no vapes are safe as they are often full of harmful chemicals and nicotine. For this reason, vapes can be addictive and harmful for lungs, brain development and general health.
It is important to talk to your children about vaping. Try to be understanding, compassionate and non-judgemental as you support them to learn more about the dangers of vaping or in seeking support to quit.
Information on what vaping is, the impacts and how to support your child is available on the new Department for Education, Children and Young People webpage on vaping, which can be accessed here:
https://www.decyp.tas.gov.au/about-us/projects/child-student-wellbeing/vaping/

Thank you to families that have finalised their levy payments for 2023.
School levies form an essential proportion of school income. As you are aware these levies go towards, but do not fully cover stationery, excursions, school lunch program, performances and educational equipment.
If you need to set up a payment plan you can do so by contacting the school office otherwise levies can be paid by the below payment methods.
- At the school (by EFTPOS, cash or cheque)
- At Service Tasmania (by EFTPOS, cash or cheque)
- Through BPAY (using the Biller Code and Reference on your invoice)
- By mail, forward your cheque, money order or credit card details to the school, with the payment slip from your invoice attached (payable to the Department of Education)
- Using Centrepay, a service provided by Centrelink.
There are a range of options available to support families with the costs of schooling.
You are eligible for the Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) if you hold a Health Care Card, Low Income Health Care Card, or Pensioner Concession Card. Once you have applied for STAS, you will not need to pay any levies. You may apply online, or collect a paper application form from the school office.
Families receiving STAS can access the Spectacles Assistance Scheme to support children who require spectacles.
A letter has been sent out to parents to those who have outstanding levies.
Please contact Laura Grant, School Business Manager on 6244 1747 if you have any questions or would like to organise a payment plan at our school. Personal information relating to levies will always be treated with confidentiality.
As you may be aware, Warrane Primary School is a Nut Aware School. In order to reduce the risk of contact with these foods, eating times are closely supervised and children are required to wash their hands after eating to ensure there is no risk of contamination by touch.
We are seeking your help in keeping our school Nut Aware by asking that you do not send any items with your child/ren that may contain nuts.
Foods of greatest risk would be peanut butter, nutella and sweets containing nuts.
Thank you for your understanding.
Parents should not be parking in the staff car park to pick up and drop off children.
The visitor carpark is the designated parent/guardian carpark for dropping students off and picking them up.
The smaller carpark is the staff/delivery carpark. Due to poor visibility and delivery trucks traversing the staff carpark, parents/guardians are requested to only use the visitor carpark.
We appreciate your cooperation.
