Hello to our Warrane Families and Community,
We are very much in the middle of the term, with lots of exciting events and learning happening throughout the school.
This week the 3/4 classes went on an excursion to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Mawsons Hut Museum and Simmons Park as part of their HASS and Science units. Staff and students commented on what a fantastic time they had despite the colder weather, even receiving feedback from a member of the public on how wonderful they thought the Warrane students were whilst on their excursion.
This term students in 5/6 Gearman have been participating in a community shadow puppetry workshop, in partnership with Terrapin Theatre Company and the Uniting Agewell facility. Each week the students have been walking to the aged care centre to produce different elements of their performance. In addition, students and residents have also been developing meaningful connections with one another through drama, music, art, and storytelling. Next week students and the residents will be presenting their performance to their families and community. Information on the performance will go home to the 5/6 Gearman families today. We look forward to hearing more about your performance in the coming weeks!
On Thursday 5th September, students in Years 3-6 will be participating in the Primary Swimming Carnival at the Clarence YMCA pool. Information about this event was sent home earlier in the week. The swimming carnival is always a fun and inclusive event, that focusses on building water confidence, participation, and sportsmanship. If you have any further questions, please feel free to speak to your child’s classroom teacher or the school office.
A friendly reminder that families are required to use the larger family carpark for school drop off and pick up. The smaller carpark near the early years classes is for staff and service vehicles only. It does not have enough parking for families and the visibility of the surrounding area and access in and out during busy times creates an added safety risk to students. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this.
Thank you,
Eliza Withers

Science week was an exciting time for Prep!
First, we had a visit from The Young Tassie Scientists. They taught everyone how to identify the parts of an insect, how rainbows bend in light and how to keep our bodies healthy.
Next, Prep enjoyed engaging in a variety of multi-sensory experiences, focusing on using their senses and collaborative learning. They shared in the wonder of trying different things including tasting lemons and oranges, smelling natural materials such as wattle and manipulating different materials including ‘goop’ to name a few. These experiences provoked many questions and discussions as the children enjoyed the variety of experiences offered.
Finally, we went on an excursion to the local park to engage with our senses in the natural environment with an extra play at the end.
What an enjoyable and busy few weeks we have had in Prep!
PRE-KINDER 2024
Our pre kinder sessions are held every Thursday from 9:00am – 10:00am in the Kindergarten classroom.
These sessions are for:
- Children who live in the area and will be attending Warrane Primary School in 2025.
- Children turning four years old on the 1January or who were born in 2020.
Children must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for the supervision and management of the child in their care.
Kinder enrolment forms are available to collect at the office.
Looking forward to seeing many new and familiar families.
Kind regards,
Mrs Reinbach
Congratulations to the students who were presented with their certificate of merit last week at assembly.
They were very proud to be acknowledged for upholding our school values of Connection, Courage, Growth, Respect and Responsibility.
* Absent - Brandon & Julia
Warrane Primary School Swimming Carnival for Years 3-6 will be held on Thursday 5th September at the YMCA Clarence Aquatic Centre. The bus will leave the school at 9:10am and return to school at approximately 12:00pm. Please ensure that your child arrives at school promptly on the day.
Students require appropriate swimwear including bathers, goggles, swim cap and a towel. Swimwear will need to be worn underneath full school uniform to help with change room restrictions. Students are encouraged to bring an additional bag for wet clothes and towels to go in. Please ensure underwear is packed for them to change into after.
Students are required to bring their usual packed food and water bottle. Hot food will be available for students on their return to school. The kiosk will not be available for students to purchase items.
We are looking for volunteers at the carnival. If you can help on the day, have a WWVP (Working with Vulnerable People) card, and have completed or are willing to complete the safeguard video, please contact the office.
Families are invited to watch their child race, however only those with their WWVP card and safeguarding training will be allowed to volunteer on the day.

If your child requires medication or an EpiPen at school, the following guidelines need to be followed:
- All medications and EpiPen's must be in date and in the original packaging with the Pharmacist label stating the child’s name and dosage (this includes non-prescription medication, eg paracetamol).
- A Parent/Guardian DoE Authorisation form needs to be completed for all medications that are to be administered at school.
- Medical Practitioner/Pharmacist DoE Authorisation forms needs to be completed for ongoing prescription medication and EpiPen’s.
- Asthma, epilepsy and anaphylaxis action plans need to be updated every year by your doctor and provided to the school office.
The cooler months bring colds, flu, COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses. The best way to look after yourself and your family is to prepare, plan and protect.
- Prepare and get vaccinated. Making sure the whole family are up to date with their flu and COVID-19 vaccines is the best way to protect them from getting very sick.
- Flu can be serious for young children. Children are more likely to catch and spread the flu and young children may become very sick.
- Everyone aged over 6 months can receive an annual flu vaccine. Flu vaccines are free* for children under 5 years, pregnant women, people aged over 65 years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and those with certain medical conditions.
- Adults can receive COVID-19 vaccine every 6 to 12 months, depending on age and individual health. Speak to your GP or pharmacist about what vaccines are recommended for you and your family.
- You can receive flu and COVID-19 vaccines on the same day. Book an appointment with your GP or local pharmacist today.
