Farewell from Mrs Thorp – A Wonderful Seven Weeks at Warrane Primary
As Term 2 comes to an end, so does my time at Warrane Primary School. Over the past seven weeks, I’ve had the joy of sharing in learning, laughter, and unforgettable experiences. I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the students, staff, and families who have made this time so special. Working alongside a passionate team of educators, administration staff, teacher assistants and facility attendants has been truly inspiring. Their curiosity, enthusiasm and humour have made every day a delight. A special thank you to Melissa Didham, who joined us as Assistant Principal during this time, and to Jodi Freeman whose leadership and support have been invaluable.
Together at the Table
Last week I had the pleasure of joining our Kinder students and their families for Together at the Table. The lunch was delicious, and the company was even better! It’s always wonderful to see our school community connecting and sharing moments together.
Assembly Highlights
Our assembly on Wednesday, 2nd July was a vibrant celebration of learning across the school. Congratulations goes to students in Kinder, 3–4 Wood, and 1–2 Clarke for their fantastic presentations. Our school choir lifted spirits with performances of Sunshine on a Rainy Day and Happy. Also, a special shout-out to Selestina and Charlie who were awarded Aussie of the Month—well done! Thank you to all WPS families who attended.
Student Reports
Prep–Year 6 teachers have been working hard to finalise student reports in line with the Department’s 2025 Assessment and Reporting Guidelines. These reports reflect your child’s achievements and are developed through collaboration between class teachers and specialists.
Please check your child’s bag this Friday afternoon (4th July) for their mid-year report.
Have a wonderful holiday—stay safe and take care!
Warm regards,
Frances Thorp
I acknowledge and pay respect to the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community as the traditional and original owners of lutruwita/trowunna (Tasmania) and as the enduring custodians of the lands, seas, air and waterways. I pay respect to Elders past and present.

It’s been a jam-packed and exciting term in 3/4 Wood! We were lucky to visit the Botanical Institute, where we made our own body sprays, crafted clay mugs, and shared a delicious soup that everyone helped prepare.
Another special highlight was being part of the Intergenerational Program visiting with residents from Uniting Age Well Mornington Community. Students spent time chatting with residents, planting trees, playing games, and enjoying pikelets and hot chocolate together. It has been a wonderful experience for everyone involved, and the students have loved every moment!

A very big thank you to Miss Doyle for everything she did for our class while I was on placement. Thank you for welcoming me back into 1/2 , I appreciated all the students and families' support while I furthered my study.
The last three weeks in 1/2 Williams has been very busy! We concluded our work on Diagraphs and are finishing off our unit on Information Reports by writing an informative piece about our new pet rocks. We have started new sustained reading groups, to ensure we spend quality reading time every day in our classroom. In Maths we have been looking at capacity with some hands-on learning and in HASS we finished looking at Past and Present, which the students thoroughly enjoyed learning about with Miss Doyle. Looking forward to another Term of amazing learning. -Miss Williams
Authorisation for Administration of Student Medication forms need to be filled out for both prescription and non-prescription medications. You can find blank forms attached below or request them from the school office. Form A is for non-prescription medicine and can be filled in by a parent. Form B is for prescription medicine and needs a GP or pharmacist input. Students needing short-term medication like antibiotics or Panadol must submit these forms before staff can administer them.
All medical forms must be updated yearly and signed by the child’s healthcare provider. If the current forms are less than two years old, a letter from your GP can confirm their validity.
Forms:
- Authorisation for Administration of Student Medication Form
- Epilepsy Medical Action Plan
- Allergy Medical Action Plan
- Diabetes Medical Action Plan

The Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) provides assistance for eligible families by waiving the cost of school levies. All families holding a current Centrelink Health Care Card, Centrelink Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card are eligible for STAS.
Further information on STAS can be found on the Department of Education internet at: https://www.education.tas.gov.au/parents-carers/parent-fact-sheets/fees-levies/.
The online form can be found at: https://stasonlinesubmission.education.tas.gov.au/ .
Parents who currently receive STAS will not need to provide any additional information and will not need to reapply. You cannot apply online or add additional students in the online application form if you are already receiving STAS. If you wish to add a newly enrolled child to your existing STAS file, please email the details to stas@decyp.tas.gov.au.
Questions about STAS can be forwarded to the Department’s Financial Services Unit at stas@decyp.tas.gov.au or by calling 1800 827 055.

There is now an additional requirement that all volunteers have completed the mandatory safeguarding training module. The certificate must be provided to our office staff before you are able to volunteer.

We have students who are allergic to nuts and eggs. As this allergic reaction can be life threatening, the school asks that these products are not brought to school in children’s lunch boxes or for class celebrations.
Items not to be brought to school include but are not limited to - all nut products, peanut butter, Nutella, peanut oil in margarines and all egg products.
It is important that all classes observe this nut and egg aware policy due to the danger of an allergic child coming into contact with residue left by other classes. The parents/carers and staff appreciate your co-operation in this serious matter.

All students are welcome.
A reminder that families are required to use the larger family carpark for school drop off and pick up.
The smaller carpark near the early years classes is for staff and service vehicles only. It does not have enough parking for families and the visibility of the surrounding area and access in and out during busy times creates an added safety risk to students.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this.
